Director of Music/Organist: St. Mary’s Cathedral
Christoph Tietze began his ministry as church musician at age 12 in his native Germany. After his family moved to the US when he was 14, he continued his organ studies at San Jose State University (BA), private study in organ and improvisation in Paris, and study in sacred music with organ emphasis at Yale University Institute of Sacred Music (MM, MMA). In 2003, he received his DSM degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation, having finished his studies during a sabbatical at St. Benet’s Hall, Oxford University. His organ teachers included John Walker, Jean Langlais, Gerre Hancock, and Robert Fielding. Dr. Tietze has been Music Director/Organist at St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco for the last 23 years, and his books on the introits are published by Liturgy Training Publications and World Library Publications.
