Biography

When Brad Baker graduated from Joliet (IL) Catholic High School in 1982, he decided to pursue a career in business. He graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa where he received a B.A. in Marketing in 1986.

Back in Joliet after college, Brad joined the staff of the Rialto Square Theatre where he worked as director of marketing for more than five years. While on the Rialto staff, he had the responsibility of programming artists that appealed to a contemporary audience.

While Brad greatly enjoyed the opportunity to promote the “Jewel of Joliet,” he began to understand that God had a different plan for him.

In 1995, following a period of discernment, he entered the University of St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein Seminary to pursue studies and preparation for priestly ministry. On June 3, 2000 Fr. Brad was ordained in the Cathedral of St. Raymond by Bishop Joseph Imesch.

Fr. Brad’s first assignment was to Immaculate Conception Parish in Elmhurst, IL where he served as parochial vicar. In 2005, he came to the Cathedral to serve first as parochial vicar, then temporary administrator, and now rector.

Under his leadership, the parish went through a strategic planning process in 2009, followed by a Master Site Planning process in 2012.. Those efforts identified the need for ten capital improvements to the Cathedral campus. The Centennial Capital Campaign is currently underway at the Cathedral of St. Raymond with the goal of completing the projects in advance of the parish Centennial in 2017..

Known for his warm and relatable homilies, Fr. Brad continues to lead a thriving parish of 2,100 families with grace and compassion. He oversees a grade school of 510 students from preschool to eighth grade and a religious education program of 220 students.
